Motion Trails — stroboscopic motion trail videos on iPhone & Mac

Motion Trails overlays the phases of a motion into a single video — like a stroboscopic sequence photo, but moving. Show every stage of a golf swing, a long jump, a fencing lunge, or a skateboard trick in one continuous shot. Pick the number of trails and MOVINdow places them automatically. Free, on-device, in MOVINdow for iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

Motion Trails in action: one long jump

One jump, shown across multiple phases in a single moving shot. This example uses Clone, which cuts out the athlete and places each phase automatically.

Two styles: Ghost and Clone

Ghost

Keeps things that move — balls, rackets, bikes, animals, water. Moving elements remain as overlapping semi-transparent trails, tracing the full path of the motion.

Clone

Cuts out people and places a crisp copy of the person at each phase of the movement — clone-style sequence videos of a runner, dancer, or athlete.

How it works

  1. Open the video's menu in MOVINdow and choose Motion Trails.
  2. Pick a style: Ghost (things that move) or Clone (people cut out).
  3. Choose the number of trails — up to 30. Placement is automatic.

No manual masking, no keyframes, no cloud processing. The result is a video you can save and share.

What can you make with it?

FAQ

How do I make a stroboscopic (sequence-photo style) video on iPhone?
Open the video's menu in MOVINdow → Motion Trails → choose Ghost or Clone → set the number of trails. Everything else is automatic.
What's the difference between Ghost and Clone?
Ghost keeps things that move as overlapping trails; Clone specifically cuts out people and places copies at each phase.
Is there a limit to the number of trails?
You can choose up to 30 trails.
Can I make motion trails from a long video?
You can, but we recommend clips of about 10 seconds or less, shot with a steady, fixed camera. Longer or shaky footage can take a long time to generate — trim the clip first (time-based trimming from 1/100s).
Is it free? Does it upload my video?
Currently free, and processing is on-device. MOVINdow itself does not upload your videos; your photo library may sync with iCloud according to your device settings.
